Prey - How to Get the Q-Beam

Where to find the Q-Beam in Prey.

This guide will show you how to get the Q-Beam in Prey. In Prey, the Q-Beam is a gun that fires a laser at enemies and causes them to explode. It does so by breaking them down into their base elements, which you can then use for creating items including unlimited Neuromods. Finding the Q-Beam in Prey can be challenging, so we’ve outlined the steps below.

How to Get the Q-Beam

To get the Q-Beam in Prey, you will first need to progress through the story until you have access to the Hardware Labs and have the unlocked the Repair II skill via Neuromod.

At this point, you'll want to make your way to the Hardware Labs and proceed to the Machine Shop. In here, you will need to collect and create the Atrax Propulsion System which allows you to move around in zero gravity. After you've successfully equipped the Atrax Propulsion System, you're one step closer to unlocking the Q-Beam in Prey.

The next step is to use the Airlock to access the Exterior of Talos I. Once outside, turn right and fly up to the hull breach. Inside the hull breach, you'll find a hull breach failsafe that needs repairing. This is why you need to have the Repair II Neuromod skill unlocked, as you'll utilize it in order to fix the hull breach. Once you've fixed the hull breach, head back inside the Machine Shop and back into the room with the elevator.

Use the elevator to reach the upper level and enter the door labeled, “Beams and Waves Lab Combustion Lab.” This is the hallway you just repaired from the Exterior of Talos I. Once you're through the hallway, turn right and go through the door labeled, “Beams and Waves Lab.”

Inside, you will find a test chamber to your right with a Phantom at the end. You can use the computer to fire the Q-Beam, killing the Phantom before you go in to collect it. Be sure to search the area for any extra ammunition, as the Q-Beam uses a lot of energy.

If you followed this guide, you should now know how to get the Q-Beam in Prey.
